PainPath
Mixed reality pain reporting
A mixed reality app that lets patients show their pain instead of describing it. Using hand tracking on a headset, you place markers directly on a life-size 3D body, tag each one with a pain type and an intensity from mild to severe, then review and submit the result for your specialist to see before your appointment. Finalist at the XR Creator Challenge 2026.
- Hand-tracked marker placement directly on a life-size 3D body model
- Pain type selection (ache, stiff, sharp) with a ten-step intensity palette
- Rotate, undo and multi-area flows so patients can map complex pain accurately
- A final review step summarises the report before it is submitted to the specialist
Challenge
Pain is notoriously hard to communicate in words, and short consultations leave little time to unpack it. The interface had to be usable by patients with no XR experience, possibly in pain while using it.
Approach
Kept every interaction to a single pinch or touch, anchored the UI to the room, and mirrored the clinical pain-scale language clinicians already use so the output slots straight into their workflow.
